It doesn't rot, doesn't require staining or sealing, and holds color well in the PNW rain and UV cycle. Wood decking — cedar, pressure-treated pine, or ipe — has a natural look and lower upfront cost, but requires periodic maintenance. The choice comes down to upfront budget vs 15-year maintenance cost, and how much you value the look of natural wood.

What is the difference between cedar and pressure-treated lumber for decks?
